What is SUNYConnect?
- SUNYConnect is a joint initiative of the SUNY Provost’s Office of Library & Information Services and the libraries of the 64 SUNY campuses to share collections and services across the State University of New York.
- SUNYConnect integrates the newest technology-based library and information systems with more traditional library resources to provide an extensive, up-to-date teaching and learning environment.
- SUNYConnect is a multi-year project designed to insure that SUNY libraries will meet the information needs of all SUNY students and faculty.
Major features of SUNYConnect include:
- A collection of full-text, full-image and multimedia digital publications and services available to all SUNY students, faculty and staff anytime and from anywhere.
- A common library automation system enabling students to directly access and borrow from any SUNY library as from a single library.
- Applications to provide more powerful searching and integration of Web-based electronic resources.
What has SUNYConnect accomplished?
- SUNY Provost Peter D. Salins signed a contract with Ex Libris, Inc. for the SUNYConnect library automation system on May 25, 2000. As of July 2006 the implementation of over 60 SUNY libraries is complete.
- A Union Catalog to allow holdings of all SUNY libraries to be viewed and utilized as a single library is in production.
- A set of Web-based information resources, including thousands of full text journals, is now available through SUNYConnect to every SUNY student regardless of the financial resources of their local campus.
- SUNYConnect’s delivery service (LAND) provides delivery of library materials within 48 hours for all SUNY libraries. This service greatly enhances SUNY’s ability to share print resources such as books and journals.
- In June 2002 a system to allow linking of electronic resources across
multiple vendors was put in place. Approximately 58 campuses are now in
production with the current version of this system, called 360Link.
- An online information literacy course was created by Ulster County Community College and is now freely available to all for downloading
