Conference Call Minutes

Meeting was called to order
at
WorldCat-local
Discussion focused on the
OCLC WorldCat-local demonstration and the
desirability to sign on now. We need to
press OCLC on a workable pricing model; try to get in on the bottom, perhaps
replace the Aleph front end with WorldCat.
OCLC is already working with the California Digital
Library. Do we have the opportunity to
pilot this developing product? Could we
provide some value added service by bringing in Elsevier and/or Ebsco (since there is limited demand for the content in WorldCat)?
Carey suggested working with
several vendors –Ebsco, OCLC, etc to see if we can
leverage the size of SUNY to get beneficial pricing for desirable content and
an interface we want.
SAC-SCLD relationship
SCLD reviewed the language of
purpose for the Council. Do we need two groups?
There was some concern that only SAC could communicate with the SUNY
Provost. Perhaps SCLD needs to become
more action oriented to find some successes and move them forward. Perhaps having more than one meeting of SCLD
each year would be appropriate at this time.
