Absent: Christie Ackert, Bernie Henderson, Peter Genovese, and Ruedi Lienhard 1. Agenda: approved. 2. Minutes of June 29 meeting: approved with corrections to Section 6 on the SUNYConnect Update as requested by Tom Neiss and presented by Pat Onsi. 3. Election of Secretary: Pam Peters has agreed to become secretary beginning with this meeting. Pat Onsi was thanked for her contributions as past secretary. 4. LMS Announcement - Implementation Team Update: * Maureen Zajkowski announced the LMS recommendation that was presented to Provost Salins on August 9, 1999. This announcement was to aid SAC members in their discussions with representatives from KPMG (see Section 8). The LMS announcement is still considered confidential. * The formation of Operations Team(s) related to the implementation process will be coordinated by OLIS. 5. SUNYConnect Update: the following information was presented by Larry Randall, * Ulster County Community College has been selected to provide a Web-based Information Literacy course for the SUNY System. Ulster's proposal was one of those submitted in response to an RFP issued earlier this year by OLIS. * The OLIS position vacancy for a Library System Implementation Specialist has been filled. Paperwork is now being processed for hiring. The duties of the position relate to campus migration and data conversion needs for the SUNYConnect LMS. * The next SLiCAT (SUNY Library Contract Advisory Team) videoconference will be held August 12, 1999. * Larry is reviewing the Carl Uncover accounts across SUNY to identify and eliminate duplicate accounts and other possible errors that contribute to increased costs for the service. * SUNYConnect LMS Planning Team: the first meeting was held on July 15, 1999. The Team reviewed the charge and agreed on a process for completing its work. A SUNY internal RFP will be developed to identify and select host sites. Subgroups were formed to address the following items: network requirements, requirements for cluster hosts, migration schedules and requirements for node sites, language for SUNY internal memorandums of understanding to be signed by host and node sites. 6. Finance Committee: revisions to the SUNYConnect Five Year Financial Plan, developed by Carey Hatch, Eleanor Heishman, and Peter Genovese, were reviewed. The goal of the plan is to present a funding structure equitably divided among the campuses that will generate the revenues required for initial and ongoing support of SUNYConnect operations. There was an agreement to use bibliographic database size by campus sector as a model. The plan, along with a document outlining the rationale upon which the plan is based and information on how the funding will be used, will be distributed to the SUNY library community within the next few months. It was agreed that ideas for a financial plan FAQ would be shared with the SUNYConnect Advisory Council members. 7. By Laws Committee: Pam Peters began a review, article by article, of the draft By Laws for the SUNYConnect Advisory Council. 8. KPMG: SAC members met with consultants from KPMG, a consulting firm contracted by Provost Salins to review SUNY's strategic planning for the technology, programs and services provided by Advanced Learning and Information Services. 9. Other Business: * Dan Schabert will continue as chair. * Laura Cohen was introduced as the new SUNYLA representative. * A resolution was passed to thank Mary Beilby for her contributions to the committee during her four years of service and for serving as chair for one of those years.
