(SLAM) Bid Proposals

March 30, 1999 was the closing date for submission of bid responses to the SLAM RFP. Six vendors responded: Ameritech, DRA, Endeavor, Ex Libris, SIRSI, and VTLS.

The SLAM Evaluation Team completed the development of the formal review process for the bid responses. The document defining the review process was submitted to the Office of the State Comptroller on March 26. The Evaluation Team will now begin the formal review.

Anticipated 1999 Timeline for SLAM Evaluation Team:
April - May: Team will focus on evaluating proposals, participating in customer site visits and/or reference calls, and preparations for vendor demonstrations/ interviews.
April 20-22: Meeting of the Team to review proposals, review issues related to the short list of vendors, review of topics related to customer references, and preparation for vendor demonstrations/interviews.
May 17-28: Team will participate in vendor demonstrations/interviews. Note: these sessions will be for the Evaluation Team members. They are not open to the larger community. The sessions will be used to clarify questions/comments/ issues identified in the RFP bid responses and from other sources, such as customer contacts. Vendors may be asked to demo only certain functionality for clarification. Consequently, the sessions will have a specific agenda and will not be general demonstrations.
Early summer: The goal is to have a final recommendation by early June. Please note that the Evaluation Team will work as expeditiously and thoroughly as time permits. However, the review process may require additional investigation that could impact when the final recommendation can be made.

The Library Automation Steering Group (LASG) approved the motion proposed by the SLAM committee that the Evaluation Team's final recommendation be submitted to the Office of the Provost. An announcement of the recommended vendor will be made to the SUNY community after that recommendation has been accepted.
