The SUNYConnect Advisory Council (S.A.C.) has been involved in a planning process for SUNYConnect 2006-2010. Revisions are being made in the planning document to incorporate comments and suggestions from
S.A.C. has a challenge to take into account a wide range of comments, some of which are in contradiction with one another. The revised document will receive additional review. Consensus has been reached to focus on some of the more specific, practical suggestions in the document. These center around digital library initiatives (see article on Dspace), shared collection development and SUNYConnect LMS-related services. Issues related to how the changing nature of academic libraries and changing demographics of librarians affect SUNY and SUNYConnect will likely be deferred. The current version of the document lists these three Strategic Directions:
"Each of these strategic directions seeks to leverage the collective strengths and assets of the SUNY System, and increase opportunity for librarians, library staff, faculty, administrators and students to participate in the process of evolving the SUNY libraries into a 21st century library system that recognizes both University-wide commonalities and campus specific needs." If you have not provided your comments on SUNYConnect planning and strategic directions, you still have a chance via an online survey (information has been provided to SUNY library directors) . S.A.C. and OLIS are grateful to all that took the time and attention to evaluate the planning document. It is hoped that the final product will reflect the entire SUNY library community. |
