OLIS' Hatch Interim Director of SLN
SUNY System Administration has asked Assistant Provost for Library and Information Services, Carey Hatch, to serve as interim director of the SUNY Learning Network. This is in addition to his duties for OLIS. The interim position is currently set for six months, but may extend longer depending upon circumstances.
ALEPH Upgrades
Most of SUNYConnect is using v.16 of the ALEPH software. These
mini "STPs" are the result of efforts across SUNY encompassing
library staff, ITEC and OLIS among others. Special acknowledgement
goes to OLIS trainers Karen Gardner-Athey and Maggie Horn for
many a training session and days on the road.
The remaining campuses are scheduled to complete the upgrade by
the end of August 2006.
Friend of SUNYLA
Congratulations to S.A.C. for the 2006 Friend of SUNYLA award.
The nominating letter included, in the list of the group's
accomplishments, credit for "engaging the entire SUNY library
community in strategic planning for our libraries."
In accepting the award, outgoing S.A.C. chair Randy Gadikian
highlighted the work done by council members "past and present."
SciDir
The OLIS is developing a web-based reporting system related to
SUNYConnect's ScienceDirect service. The system, when fully
developed, will allow SUNYConnect campuses to generate reports
on the usage of ScienceDirect. In addition, the system is
designed to provide subscription and cost information.
The SUNY Collections and Access Council has been reviewing the
system and providing feedback. The OLIS is striving to
complete the system by mid-September.
Union Catalog
All SUNYConnect catalog holdings, except UB's are now found in
the union catalog. Updates from the 60 campus catalogs are also
being included in the SUNY-wide view. This represents 12.2
million bibliographic records. With the addition of Buffalo's
catalog later this year that total will be 14.7 million.
SUNYLA Presentations
"One of your pre-conference topics stood out as one that I would
have been particularly interested in." Geneseo campus president
Christopher C. Dahl discussing "Everything you wanted to know about serials but were afraid to
ask" (Maggie Horn)
The other SUNYLA presentations from members of OLIS were:
“Resource Sharing Across SUNY” (Carey Hatch, Maureen Zajkowski
and members of the SUNYConnect Advisory Council)
“Models for ALEPH Management and Support Services” (Carey Hatch,
Maureen Zajkowski and members of the SUNYConnect Advisory Council)
“SUNY and Ongoing Changes to Scholarly Communication”
(John Schumacher)
Thanks to Geneseo, conference planners, presenters and speakers
for a good conference.
