(Editor's note: The OLIS thanks the chancellor for his support of SUNY and SUNY libraries. He will be missed; we wish him success in future endeavors. The letter sent to college presidents and others regarding his resignation follows.) Dear Colleagues, It is with mixed emotions that I send this note to all of you. Later today it will be announced that I will be stepping down as Chancellor effective the end of May to become the President and CEO of the Center for Creative Leadership headquartered in Greensboro, NC. I have greatly enjoyed my five years at the State University of New York,
first as President of the Maritime College, then as Interim President at
the University at Albany and for the past two years as your Chancellor. I salute Governor Spitzer for his embracing of the University, his strong support of our budget and his understanding of the vital role the University can play in the economic revitalization of New York State. Please be assured we will all continue to work toward another outstanding state budget as we also commence work on the Governor’s Commission on Higher Education. Through May, I will work closely with our Board of Trustees and the Governor and his staff to ensure a smooth transition so that SUNY’s forward momentum continues unabated. I look forward to seeing many of you in Washington next week. Best Regards |
