SUNYConnect and its libraries have switched linking software. As of July 1, 2007 that software is 360 Link (from Serials Solutions). SUNYConnect libraries were early adoptors of this technology, at the time utilizing the SFX software. Capabilities for efficiently moving from a citation to the full article very quickly became important services for the modern library. Since SUNYergy (Vol.9 No. 2) we've moved from considering a switch in software to implementing 360 Link. This has or is occuring at all but three of the SUNYConnect libraries. (The three are opting to take other approaches and/or other softwares.) The OLIS commends all the front line librarians who have taken on yet another task. Serials Solutions uses a software as a service approach. One
result of this is that the 360 Link system is hosted and managed by the vendor. This also allows for more rapid updating of the
software and the underlying "knowledgebase" that makes the system
work. With the ever-changing realms of electronic journals and
online databases, such timely updates make a significant
difference.
An email discussion list has been created for SUNY librarians to share techniques and tips, and to streamline problem solving related to 360 Link and other Serials Solutions products.
