Database Trials Gale is currently offering trial access for the following databases:
Trial access is set up through September 2007. History of Community Colleges Collection in DSpace "The SUNY Community Colleges: An Oral History of the First 30 Years includes over 100 interviews with early leaders of the State University of New York community colleges. These leaders include presidents, trustees, professors, administrators and students. A number of the interviews are available both in transcript form and via audio files. The project coordinator and editor is Dr. Neal V. Robbins. Sponsors of the project are the Association of Community College Trustees, Association of Presidents of Public Community Colleges, SUNY Office of Community Colleges, Educational Administration and Policy Studies at SUNY Albany and SUNY's Office of Library and Information Services." Substantial materials are found in the introduction and appendicies as well. The hope is to add more audio files as they become available in digital format. The OLIS salutes all that have been involved in this project. The original plan included distributing compact discs of The SUNY Community Colleges: An Oral History of the First 30 Years to all of the SUNY community colleges. With this new publication via the SUNY Digital Repository, the work is available to all of SUNY and any other interested party around the world. Psychology Databases via EBSCO As a result of being the major SUNYConnect database vendor, EBSCO provided pricing and analysis related to SUNY and the APA databases. Many SUNY libraries already utilized EBSCO for those resources. About six more have joined. This resulted in cost savings, monies in libraries' budgets. The University at Buffalo was one library that made a switch. Along with cost savings, the change was made to improve the linking to this literature. A UB student (and others) can be searching in PsycINFO and use "native" EBSCO linking technology to arrive at the full-text in Academic Search Premier. New OLIS Communication/Information Tools Various online support portals have been consolidated. The address is listed below and in the Linkable Links section. A web log has been set up for SUNYConnect and OLIS-related news and announcements. See http://www.sunyconnect.suny.edu/blog. To subscribe to the resource, see http://www.sunyconnect.suny.edu/blog/?feed=rss2 And, an OLIS document site is available at
http://www.sunyconnect.suny.edu/olisdocs/public Announcement The SUNY Office of Library and Information Services announces the availability of a consolidated OLIS Support Portal http://www.sunyconnect.suny.edu/support. The consolidation brings together resources related to OLIS and SUNYConnect services for ALEPH, 360 Link and electronic resources. On the consolidated support portal, you will find links to a new “OLIS Documents” site. The documents site is organized into directories for the major areas of OLIS support: Aleph, Service, Electronic Resources as well as areas related to various SUNY committees and taskforces. The login to the new consolidated portal is the same as for the SUNY ALEPH500 Portal. Please update your browser bookmarks with the new http://www.sunyconnect.suny.edu/support address. You’ll be re-directed to this site (from the previous portals) for one year. If you are having difficulties finding a resource on the portal or a document in the new “Docs” area or if you have suggestions for additional content, please let us know via the Footprints system (http://service.sunyconnect.suny.edu/footprints/help.html). |
