GreenFILE
EBSCO Publishing has made a new database available for free. GreenFILE is a bibliographic database (withlink to GreenFile some full text open access content) focusing on environmental science, environmental issues, human impacts on climate.

"GreenFILE offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on the environmental effects of individuals, corporations and local/national governments, and what can be done at each level to minimize these effects. Multidisciplinary by nature, GreenFILE draws on the connections between the environment and a variety of disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology. Topics covered include global climate change, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for approximately 295,000 records, as well as Open Access full text for more than 4,600 records."

Via linking software and resources such as ScienceDirect, many citations in GreenFILE lead to the full article for our SUNY library community.

Search & Discovery Report
The Shared Search & Discovery Services Committee has presented its report to the SUNYConnect Advisory Council. More information will be available after S.A.C. has a chance to consider the group's recommendations.

OVRC
Please let John Schumacher know of your interest in continuing access to the Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center (Gale/Cengage). Such interest in the past has made the resource available to all of SUNYConnect while reducing the per-campus cost by 29%.

SUNY/Elsevier Contract Working Group
The ScienceDirect agreement expires at the end of 2009. A SUNY-wide committee has been formed related to negotiations with Elsevier on a possible renewal. The group is comprised of Frank D'Andraia (Albany, Chair), Austin Booth (UB), Ron Brown (SUNY-wide contracts), Patrick Callahan (Purchase), Carey Hatch (OLIS/SLN), John Schumacher (OLIS) and Rick Winant (Downstate). The SUNY/Elsevier Contract Working Group is scheduled to meet in June.

E-Resources Team and the SUNY Digital Library
The SUNY Digital Library proposal was supported by the Provost and other senior administrators. A request for three million dollars was included in the SUNY budget plan. Due to the downturn in the economy no new initiatives were included in SUNY’s budget. The S.A.C. has charged the SUNYConnectE-Resources Team to make recommendations on additional electronic resources by early Fall 2008.
