Ex Libris meets with SUNY
OLIS, ITEC and Ex Libris met October 7, 2008. Ex
Libris' Shelley Hostetler, Manager, Global ILS Support
and Greg Gosselin, Account Executive participated in
the meeting.
The goal of the meeting was to again seek a common understanding of ALEPH support needs across SUNY. SUNYConnect's unique implementation of ALEPH has created challenges in fully utilizing Ex Libris technical support paid for by all SUNYConnect participants. By having more inquiries end up with Ex Libris for resolution, OLIS hopes to make progress towards the stated goal of using less staff time for ALEPH support. New ALEPH Reports Available Reports for cataloging cleanup: These services create a list of bib system numbers for bibliographic records that meet the criteria. Other Aleph reports/services can be used to refine and/or print results or perform global changes.
Reports for OPAC Stats: These custom services replace the current web-based OPAC Stats created by Nathan Fixler at OLIS. The Custom Services can report on OPAC activity from the beginning of v16.
Job to provide circulation data for WorldCat Collection Analysis:
This file can be sent to OCLC without any further modification. ALEPH & Angel Shared Services Group Final Report Thanks to the task force members for their efforts in support of SUNYConnect.

Comprehensive summaries of discipline-specific topics help students to grasp the broad outlines of a subject, realize its real world applications, critically engage it, and locate sources for advanced research. Articles average 3,000 words, providing concise yet more in-depth content than most textbook or encyclopedia entries." Free trial access is available through the

"ISI Web of Knowledge contains: 13,000 journals; 23 million patents; 192,000 conference proceedings; 9,100 Web sites; 5,000 books; 2 million chemical structures; over 100 years of backfiles; 40 million cited references added annually; 256 subject categories in Science, Social Sciences, and Arts and Humanities, covering the full range of scholarship and research." This resource includes the Web of Science citation analysis tool as well as Biosis Previews. ScienceDirect Title Swap By agreement, subscriptions ceased must be replaced with subscriptions of equal or greater price. Along with collection decisions at individual libraries, this process does have implications regarding possible needs in terms of archival access to titles of interest to our libraries. The SUNY Collections and Access Council (University Centers and HSCs) and the Comprehensive Colleges Cooperative Collection Development group are being utilized as conduits for discussion and decisions on this title swapping. Libraries with questions or comments about this, please contact John Schumacher (OLIS). Electronic Resource Recommendations Unfortunately, that support did not carry through
the New York State budget process (even more so,
not through subsequent and additional cuts to the
SUNY budget). Nevertheless, the Electronic Resources
Team carried out their current charge. This was
to look at current electronic resource subscriptions
at our libraries, and to provide recommendations
for the resources suitable for SUNYConnect-wide
access/subscription. The recommendations are both
by SUNY sector as well as in a priority order. The
report to S.A.C. as well as an accompanying
spreadsheet are available via the OLIS Documents
area. |
