OLIS is participating in the SUNY Business Intelligence
Initiative (SBII). Included as part of the initiative
is a SBII is a SUNY-wide effort to provide useful, consistent and productive data analysis and reporting tools for the wide spectrum of university information and data. "The fundamental goal of the SUNY Business Intelligence
Initiative (SBII) is to: "The SUNY Business Intelligence Initiative (SBII) will help create an atmosphere where decision makers at all levels, including front-line academic units to senior management, are empowered with the information they need to analyze and manage their administrative tasks related to information ...The SUNY Business Intelligence Initiative will facilitate strategic and operational decision-making at the campuses and System Administration by making information available in a timely, consistent and mission-driven manner". Carey Hatch (OLIS, SLN, CPD) is a member of the SBII Steering Committee; Maureen Zajkowski (OLIS) is heading up the Library Functional Group portion of the SBII.
The technical underpinnings to SBII are systems from Oracle and Sungard with extensive work from computer centers at System Administration and elsewhere around SUNY. Part of the project involves the creation of an interface that users exploit to get the best use out of the data warehoused. Along with the library group, SBII (Phase I) is working with SUNY Institutional Research data, Banner Student and financial aid information, and university-wide community college financial data. The interface and system for the first (Institutional Research) has been completed, others to be completed during the first half of 2009. Additional analysis of the library data is needed, and completion date is yet to be determined. The initial work with SUNYConnect is focusing
on LMS data (bibliographic and circulation) records. Users will be able to analyze
individual collections as well as draw comparisons with
other campuses. |
