"What you do for students, working one-on-one with them is priceless." SUNY Provost David link to SUNY.edu Provost's pageLavallee speaking at the 2011 SUNY Council of Library Directors (SCLD) meeting also commented on how his academic career at SUNY, New Paltz and other institutions has included the positive benefit of overseeing academic libraries. He urged the directors to look at the totality of shared endeavors across SUNY to then see the benefit of such collaborations for their particular campus.

Indeed, the group adopted the "one vision, one voice" Power of SUNY Libraries strategic plan during the April meeting in Cooperstown. Prior to that, projects and ideas for making the plan real were discussed in focus groups on assessment, collections, governance/administration, LMS/sytems and user services.

In addition, a reframing of the SUNYConnect Advisory Council (S.A.C.) was approved. Subject to bylaw changes, the "SUNYConnect Coordinating Committee" (SCC) will be a standing committee reporting to the SCLD Executive Board. The representative from that latter group will be the SCC Convener and with SCC made up of SCLD members representing each SUNY sector, SUNYLA, OLIS representatives as well as ad hoc task force representation. SCC will "coordinate, provide input and track progress of SUNYConnect related activities."

A SUNYConnect Financial Committee (SFC) structure was also approved. Among other activities, this group would address changes to the SUNYConnect financial plan. The SFC will also report to the SCLD Executive Board and has a proposed make-up similar to the SCC.

Final details on both of these groups await needed bylaw changes.

Visit the SCLD web site for updates related to the strategic plan, various working groups and upcoming governance structure changes.

The following appointments to the SCLD Executive Board (and related groups) were approved by the full Council: Vice Chair/Chair Elect - Andrew White (Stony Brook); Treasurer - Gail Wood (Cortland); NYSHEI Representatives - Patrick Callahan (Purchase) and Chui-Chun Lee (New Paltz); CUNY Liaison – N.J. Wolfe (FIT).READ (in baseball player letters)
