SUNYConnect "universal borrowing" is dead, long live SUNYConnect expedited inter-library loan. Oh...oops...let's back up a few steps.

After extensive time and effort, the Ex Libris components for SUNYConnect-wide circulation functions have been deemed unworkable. The final decision on this was made by the SUNYConnect Advisory Council.

Along with this development, there's been a pretty clear signal from the SUNYConnect community to put the emphasis on inter-library loan between SUNYConnect campuses rather than SUNYConnect circulation per se. S.A.C. is now focusing on continued use of the SUNYConnect union catalog with SFX's inter-library loan service then pointing to a campus' preferred ILL process (via ILLiad, OCLC ILL, an electronic form, etc.) as the method to facilitate library sharing among SUNYConnect institutions.

Standards of performance for these transactions and other policy decisions need to be established. Representatives from ILL staffs at SUNYConnect institutions are meeting next month to discuss these and related matters. These representatives will be asked to think outside the campus "box" and to formulate standards to (finally) allow for expedited library borrowing across and around all of SUNYConnect.
