October 10, 2000
The Office of Library and Information Services is pleased to announce that the contract for the Ex Libris ALEPH500 library management system has received final approval by the New York Office of the State Comptroller. The new software is a cornerstone of the State University's SUNYConnect initiative, which is improving library services throughout the State University of New York. The pilot implementation sites proposed by the SUNYConnect Advisory Council can now move forward from the planning stages to the actual implementation process. The pilot sites are Tompkins-Cortland Community College, the University Colleges at Fredonia and Oswego and the University Centers at Binghamton, Buffalo, and Stony Brook. Sincere thanks go to Mary Ann Corsetti, Director of Contract Development, for her work in shepherding the contract through the approval process.

This announcement marks, of course, a beginning. That is, an official beginning point for the LMS implementation process that is already underway. Such a milestone, however, should not pass without an acknowledgement of the SUNY community's efforts working together to reach this point. All those involved in evaluating LMS needs, reviewing the RFP, participating in vendor evaluation and selection and contract negotiation deserve credit.

By the time you read this, "kickoff" meetings with initial implementers of the ALEPH 500 software will have commenced. Data samples are being evaluated by Ex Libris. Hardware selection and purchase is underway. SUNY OLIS appreciates your patience and requests your input, energy and enthusiasm.
